Why Is Balayage £80 in One Place and £200 in Another?

Every week someone sits in my chair and asks me this. They have had a look online, seen five different prices, and now they do not know what is reasonable.
I get it. Nobody wants to feel like they have been ripped off, and nobody wants to go cheap on their hair and regret it.
So here is what I tell everyone.
You Are Paying for the Time and the Skill
Balayage is not a quick colour slap. Your stylist is painting every section by hand, deciding where the colour goes, how light, how blended. A full head takes a good 2 to 3 hours because you cannot rush it without it looking patchy.
A partial, just around your face and parting, is less work so it is less money. At ours that starts from about £40. Full head goes up to £85 depending on which of the girls you book with.
About the Price Difference Between Stylists
Ashleigh and Sabrina have been doing this for years. They are fast and they can handle tricky colour situations that would take someone else two sessions. That is why they charge a bit more. It is not random. You are paying for what their hands can do.
The Toner Chat
This is the one that trips people up. Balayage lightens your hair, but the actual tone, whether it ends up icy, warm, ashy, golden, that comes from the toner afterwards. Skip it and you will wonder why you look a bit orange.
We charge toner as an add-on (£20 with balayage) rather than burying it in a bigger number. Just so you know what you are actually paying for.
Why Other Salons Charge So Much More
Rent, mostly. A salon in the centre of town or down south is paying a fortune in overheads and that goes on your bill. Some places charge extra for long hair or thick hair on top of the technique price, which adds up quickly.
We do not do that. Short hair, long hair, same price for the same balayage. Seemed fairer.
The Thing I Always Tell My Clients
Balayage works out cheaper over the year than highlights. There is no hard line growing out so you can leave it 3 or 4 months between appointments without it looking bad. A toner top-up halfway through keeps it fresh. Do the maths against a full head of foils every 6 weeks and it is not even close.
If You Are Still Not Sure
Just come in. We will have a look at your hair, talk about what you are after, and give you an actual price. No cost for that. Way better than guessing from a website.
